Trucks: How to Buy a Collector Car Online

Buying a collector car online can differ from buying a car from a local seller. Several basic steps can help you have a good experience purchasing your dream car.

- Figure out about how much you are able to spend on a collector car. This probably is the most important guidance of all. If you blow your budget then, you will end up spending your time thinking about how to sell it to get your money back rather than taking it to car shows. When you your budget, do not overlook allow for transportation costs plus another ten to fifteen percent of the final price to fix the small things that you will discover after you get the car home.

- Make sure you can fit into the collector car: Generally speaking, people are larger now than they were when gasoline cost 29 cents per gallon, and you might find you are just too big for some classics, particularly the smallest muscle cars. For example, if you measure more than five feet ten inches tall, your head will rub against the top of many coupes.

- Know when to spend more on a collector car. You should be willing to spend a little more than some price guides might suggest if a car has special features that appeal to you. Well accepted colors, desireable options, or a top notch restoration can all factor into a higher price. Also, if a car is geographically close to you, factor the amount you save on shipping into your bid.

- Do your homework on a collector car before you place a bid or agree to buy, especially with American muscle cars. Making sure the car has its correct factory transmission and engine can make quite a difference in the selling price. It takes some time to research VINs and other key numbers, but the information is out there. The collector car seller should be able to provide you with these numbers from the car. If they can not, then consider a different opportunity.

- Find a collector car seller you trust. Sellers should answer your questions quickly and fully and provide additional photographs when asked. For example, if a car has a rebuilt engine, the seller should be able to tell you who did the work and provide available paperwork. If a seller seems unsure of his answers or doesn't respond in a reasonable amount of time, then you should keep searching. There will be another car available soon. Be patient.. You can also contact other eBay Buyers who bought a vehicle from the seller in the past. View the seller's Feedback from buyers and use the Contact Member feature in their Member Profiles. Ask how the seller represented other cars and if the descriptions proved to be accurate when the car showed up at his door. Talking to the seller on the telephone can also help you get a feel for his character. Save a record of any email correspondence you have with a seller so that you have something to refer to in case you find any issues later.
