Concept Car: Nissan introduces the Bevel Concept at the 2007 NAIAS
So you're now retired, you've done a great job at work, and you've been a great dad even helping your son give his truck a new Titan Cold Air Intake, just last week.
All you want to do now is enjoy the fruits of your labor. It's not that you're old or grumpy, but when you go fishing you'll want sometimes to be able to put your tools, your dog and yourself in the car without worrying about scratching the upholstery, getting fur on the mat just simply enjoy yourself.
How would it be if a car was made just for that purpose?
Nissan has just unveiled an interesting concept car at this year's Detroit auto show: the Bevel -- a car that, says the Automotive News, captures the essence of 60-year-old men, their tools and their dogs.
The concept, reports the Automotive News, looks beyond SUVs to a world of empty-nesters who want to carry "stuff" instead of kids. The vehicle is decidedly less stylish than a crossover, less passenger-friendly than a minivan, less rugged than an SUV, more practical than a pickup and more utilitarian than a car.
According to Carlos Tavares, Nissan Motor Co. executive president of global product planning and design, the Bevel is a study for older men who like to keep lots of tools in their vehicle, transport things, do projects outside the house and only rarely carry passengers -- someone who would be driving alone 90 percent of the time.
What the Bevel lacks in back-seat creature comforts, it makes up with plenty of cargo space. There is less overall interior volume than a traditional SUV.
To keep you connected to your house so you can check your e-mails or turn the lights on, the concept contains wireless Internet access. For dog lovers, a built-in carrying compartment is featured in the rear so you can take the family dog on errands.
This would be a vehicle that enables him to have everything he wants with him, all the tools he might need to fix an appliance over at his children's house and to stay in communication with the house via the Internet."
Sounds good?We just have to wait and see if Nissan will push through with a project like this. Until then you could just wish you had more room in your car.
